Volunteer for the 2010 Regional FRC Competition

The 2010 FIRST Robotics Philadelphia Regional, from March 25 to 27, will be at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC) on the Philadelphia campus of Drexel University located on Market Street between 33rd and 34th Streets.

If you wish to volunteer for the event, please sign into the VIMS (Volunteer Information and Matching) system. A volunteer coordinator will be in contact with you regarding your assignment about one month before the event. If you need special training, you will be contacted sooner.

Training

Training will occur the first day that you arrive for your assignment or will be provided before the event.

Check-in Process

Each day when you arrive, please check in at the volunteer registration table. Enter through the front door of the DAC to check-in at the volunteer registration table on the second floor lobby. We ask that you check in each day as your assignment may change and we need to know who has arrived.

  • Present a photo id to register on the first day.
  • Wear the tee-shirt and badge that will be given to you; please wear them each day.
  • Complete a consent form. In order to save time, you can print this form from the following link and bring it with you: Volunteer Consent Form (PDF)
    • If you are under the age of 18, you are required to have a signature of your parent or legal guardian.
  • Complete a "Conflict of Interest and Disclosure Statement" if your assignment is a Robot Inspector, Referee, Field Supervisor, Team Queuer, Official Scorer, Scorekeeper/Field Power Control or Safety Advisor. Parking, Directions, and Public Transportation

The Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC) is number 14 on the Drexel University map.

Free parking is available in the parking garage across the street from the DAC; it is number 16 on the Drexel University Map. If asked, please mention that you are volunteering for the FIRST Robotics Competition.

Food and Other Important Information

  • Each day you will be provided with Breakfast, Lunch, snacks and drinks. Breakfast will be served from 7:00am to 8:00am. Lunch times will be determined by individual group leads.
  • There will be no babysitting services on site for children of volunteers. Underage children must be supervised by a non-volunteering adult. We can only provide meals for those working at the event.
  • We cannot be responsible for any of your belongings; there is no secure place on site. Coats may be hung on racks in the volunteer room.

Give a Day, Get a Disney Day Program

If you volunteer at least eight hours at an FRC regional, you can register to get a free "Disney Day."

  • Before the Philadelphia Regional, please register with the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program by going to www.disneyparks.com. To find the FIRST program, enter the New Hampshire Zip Code of 03101 and then select Education and Technology as the Volunteer Opportunity interest area. Then click on Find an Activity.
  • The program goal is 1 million Disney day passes distributed to volunteers. There is no limit to the number of volunteers who can register. When Disney has issued 1 million passes or has reached December 15, 2010, the program will end.
  • Should you register for this program, please tell us when you check-in the first day of your assignment; within 72 hours the volunteer coordinator must verify in the system that you have worked your day.
